Laura Carroll is a writer and international development professional based in the Washington, DC area. She draws inspiration from a combination of world travel, art history, mythology, and folklore. These seemingly disparate elements come together in her writing to make other countries, cultures, and time periods seem familiar, and to make the modern and mundane seem strange.
Her writing has appeared in in Business Insider and Brevity Blog as well as in the literary journals Nonbinary Review, Hinterland, and The Healing Muse and on the travel websites Ethical Traveler and Go Overseas.
Since 2014, she has worked in the fields of international development and public diplomacy, with a focus on professional and cultural exchange programs. She has lived, worked, and studied in several countries, including France, Italy, Morocco, Russia, and Egypt. She holds a B.A. in French and Medieval Studies from Smith College and an M.A. in Sustainable International Development from Brandeis University.
